The principal sailing areas in Spain are the Balearic Islands in the east, Costa del Sol in the south and La Coruna in the northwest. The Canaries Islands is also a famous sailing destination.
The islands of Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza is called the Balearics. This is a nice cruising area with Mallorca as the nautical center.
Over the last couple of years Spain’s Mediterranean coast and islands have seen a fantastic development in yachting facilities. There are new marinas being built everywhere, so that you are never more than a few hours’ sail from the next harbor.
The Canaries - northwest of Africa’s coast - have long been associated with sailing and the yearly Atlantic Crossing sets off from here to St Lucia in November each year.
For all tourists, Spain has something to offer all year round. During the months of May to September, where the weather is extremely good, you can take a walk along its capital city Madrid or Barcelona. On winter months, you can move some winter skiing among the slopes of Spanish mountains. The months of September to October are loaded with many kinds of activities you can participate in. Sailing in Spain, however, can be enjoyed anytime you want.
